Book Fair starts this week!
Wednesday is the Teacher Preview Lunch and Thursday is opening day! Please come by during Book Fair Hours to purchase books from a wide selection. Books make great gifts, so plan ahead for birthdays and holiday.
There are still opportunities to volunteer. Please click the link to help make our Fall Book Fair a BIG success!

Locomania pledges are due this Wednesday.
Your children did a whole lot of moving and shaking to support physical health on Friday! Will you consider making a donation to expand our physical education program? Please send the completed pledge sheets with a check made to the Clinton PTA.

Parents as Partners: K-5 Curriculum Overview
Thursday is a very informative evening with presentations by District Supervisors and Teachers. This is a district-wide event hosted by Clinton School at 7:30pm this Thursday. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

Mark your calendar:
Monday, October 7th is Back-to-School Night! All students will be dismissed at 12:05pm. Aftercare students will go to aftercare immediately following dismissal.

This Week: General Mtg, LOCOMANIA, volunteers needed!

Please join us for our first General PTA Meeting of the school year!

Our incredible Related Arts teachers will demonstrate what our kids do in the “specials” classes.
Also, learn about what the PTA does and how you can get involved. Board Members will be on hand for questions. While you’re there, join the PTA, sign up to volunteer, and buy Clinton gear. Please see the attached flyer for details. See you on Thursday!

LOCOMANIA is this Friday!
Locomania a day of fitness and outdoor fun led by our awesome PE teachers, Mr. Lehman and Ms. Freede. This annual fitness fundraiser is great fun for the kids! Feel free to email the flyer and pledge sheet to family & friends to gather support.

Can you help? These kids get THIRSTY while dancing, walking, and hopping!

Community Events: 5K, Autism author, Crime Prevention, “Babygate” author, Art Walk

Dr. Temple Grandin, autism advocate and bestselling author, will be speaking at Montclair State University on Thursday, September 26th.

Dr. Grandin will share details of her latest bestselling book, The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism and Asperger’s. Other bestselling publications include Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships,Animals Make Us Human, and Emergence: Labeled Autistic. She presently works as a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and speaks around the world on autism and cattle handling.

During her presentation, Dr. Grandin will share her story of how a mentor recognized her interests and abilities, despite being diagnosed with autism at a young age. Her fascinating life, with all its challenges and successes, has been captured in an HBO full-length film, Temple Grandin, starring Claire Danes, and has been featured on NPR and major television programs such as “The Today Show” and “Larry King Live”.

Dr. Grandin will speak in Memorial Auditorium beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a question & answer segment and a book signing beginning at 12 p.m.. The event is free. Doors will open to the public at 9:30 a.m. and admission and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program is sponsored by the College of Education and Human Services, the Center of Pedagogy, and the Center for Autism and Early Childhood Mental Health at Montclair State University, in partnership with the Newark Public Schools.

Crime Prevention Meeting:

Maplewood Police Department Detective Dean Naddeo is conducting a “Crime Prevention Meeting” on Thursday 10/3 at 7:30 PM in the Court Room adjacent to Maplewood Police Headquarters. They plan to discuss their recent efforts (perhaps including recently spotted neighborhood watch signs), provide tips for residents, and possibly help re-energize and expand the existing neighborhood watch networks.

Babygate: What You Really Need to Know About Pregnancy and Parenting in the American Workplace:
September 26, 7 pm – Maplewood Library

Come hear an informative talk by one of the authors of this important new book. This discussion will spotlight the protections expecting and new parents have (and don=92t have) in the workplace and explain how workers can advocate for themselves and protect their jobs and paychecks. The book was written and published by A Better Balance: The Work and Family Legal Center. Click here for additional information.

Sign up for the Newstead 5K

On your mark, get set and get training for the annual Newstead 5K on Sept. 21. More than 500 runners transformed the quiet streets of Newstead last year into a bustling course, raising $14,000 for the Achieve Foundation to support innovative programs, advanced technology and overall excellence in all nine schools in the district.

This year, you can register early or on race day. The race begins at 9am at the South Mountain Annex, 112 Glenview Road in South Orange. Information on preregistration, sponsorship opportunities and more is available here.

Curriculum Overview Night for Grades K-5

Each year the elementary school PTA’s and The Parenting Center present a series of workshops for parents. The first of the series is the Curriculum Overview Night for Grades K-5, hosted by Clinton School.
