Who is Your “Shero”? Women’s History Month Display Case

Posted February 24th, 2011 by PTA

For Women’s History Month in February, the display case will celebrate the extraordinary achievements and contributions of women around the globe. The display case will feature a section on “Who is My Shero?” Students are encouraged to write a short essay on a famous woman who they admire and why. The essay should be less than 100 words and include a photo of the woman. The deadline for the essay is March 7. Please email your essay to Shanta Gyan at sbgyan@hotmail.com.

We hope to feature lots of “sheros” from around the world in the display case! And this is a fun and educational activity to do during the winter recess…

In the Halls of Clinton School

Author Visit

Posted February 24th, 2011 by PTA

On February 17th, Clinton Elementary School hosted author Pamela Curtis Swallow and we kept her busy. She started the day with presentations to Kindergarten, First and Second, followed by a presentation to Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade. Her message to the students was simple… write about what you love and what you know. Mrs. Swallow shared her love of books, the library, animals and children by weaving memorable photos with her published books. How can we forget her pet groundhog who becomes the centerpiece of Groundhog Gets A Say or her library class pets, the gerbils, who are center stage in Melvil and Dewey in the Chips?

The rest of the day was spent visiting classrooms, meeting children and hosting a writer’s workshop with Third Grade. The four Third Grade classes created wonderful fictional characters and scenes from a story, read them aloud and received valuable feedback from Mrs. Swallow and fellow students.
