Volunteer Opportunities

Posted September 27th, 2010 by PTA

The Clinton School PTA is responsible for many important programs, projects, and events at Clinton School. We ALWAYS need volunteers, and we encourage you to become involved in a way that suits your family and your schedule.

Choosing to become involved in our children’s school is a great way to show them that we value their education. Please take some time to read through this handout to get a better idea of how you might become involved in our school community. Whether you have a lot or a little free time, artistic skills or not, if you’re handy with a shovel or a hammer, know how to make a great chocolate-chip cookie, or are simply willing to help where you are needed, we will find a way for you to share your time and energy with Clinton School.

Please review the form here and return it to your child’s teacher. We know the form says to complete it by September 21 but we are still accepting forms.

Volunteers for Art Room

Posted September 26th, 2010 by PTA

Clinton students are currently completing a drawing in art class that will be part of the Clinton School PTA Display My Art fundraiser. Every child will get a free magnet with her/his drawing and parents will have the opportunity to purchase other items. Order forms and more details will be sent home soon.

Our wonderful art teacher, Ms. Tischio, has been kind enough to help us facilitate this project and we would like to assist her while the students are working on their art.

If you can spare an hour or two this week or next, it would be greatly appreciated.

We especially need help during the younger students’ art classes.

The kindergarten classes have art between 9:15 and 10:05, Mon-Thurs.
1st grade has art from 10:10-11:00, Mon-Fri 2nd grade has art from 12:50 to 1:40 on Tues, Wed, Fri

If you can help, please contact our Fundraising VP Janet Trzaska click here.

If you would like to help when your child’s class is in art, Janet can tell you which day they go.

It’s Time for Book Fair!

Posted September 26th, 2010 by PTA

It’s time for our fall Scholastic Book Fair!

The Book Fair will be open from Monday through Thursday and will also be open during BOTH Back to School Nights (Tues and Wed, September 28th & 29th). The exact weekday hours are at the bottom of this email.

Your child will visit the book fair with her/his class and will have a chance to complete a Wish List which they will bring home. If you decide to purchase the books for your child, you can either send them to school with payment and the Wish List or you can stop in the Book Fair (which is held in the Cafe’–the far right side of our cafeteria) to make the purchase yourself.

While you are there you can also ask to see a Wish List for your child’s classroom that each teacher has filled out. Buying a book for your child’s classroom (which will include a label with your child’s or family’s name) is a really wonderful way to support our school.
Specials teachers also fill out Wish Lists.

We hope you’ll drop in during the week!

Monday: 8 am – 3:30 pm
Tuesday: 8 am – 3:30 pm
Wednesday: 8-10 am and 2-3:30 pm
Thursday: 8-10 am and 2-3:30 pm
Friday: 8-10 am

Cultural Heritage Month Celebrations/Please Participate

Posted September 21st, 2010 by PTA

Dear Parents,

We are a school that enthusiastically celebrates the cultural diversity of our school community! Each month, we would like to feature Clinton students to highlight their cultural heritage (or interest in a specific culture) in each display case. In November, we will celebrate Native American Heritage month.

The Montclair Art Museum will host a free Pow Wow on Sat., Sept. 25 from 1 – 5 p.m. Clinton students are encouraged to attend the Powwow featuring Native American art, music, dance, food, and fun. If your child writes about their experience (in 100 words or less) and takes photos, it will be featured in the school’s Native American heritage month display case. The event is free. Visit www.montclair-art.com.

Deadline for submissions will be Fri., October 15. Please email short essay and jpeg photos to Shanta B. Gyan, Cultural Heritage Month Coordinator here.

Back to School NIght Information (date change for grades 3-5)

Posted September 19th, 2010 by PTA

Back to School Night for Grades K-2 will still take place on
Wednesday, September 29th.

However, Back to School Night for Grades 3-5 will be held on Tuesday,
September 28th (not Thursday, September 30th).

More information (with times and other details) will be sent home in
backpacks early next week.

For now we just wanted to alert you to the change.

Back to School Night/Grades K-2 — Wednesday, September 29th
Back to School Night/Grades 3-5 — Tuesday, September 28th

For those of you who have not attended a Back to School Night before,
this is the evening where you will hear from teachers in your child’s
grade about the curriculum, the classroom schedule/structure, etc. It
will be a general conversation as opposed to a conversation
specifically about your child. However, on Back to School Night
teachers will have out sign-up sheets for Parent Teacher Conferences
(when you will meet with them one-on-one to discuss your child) so
bring your calendar so you are prepared to sign up.

Parent teacher conferences this year will take place on October 14,
15, 18, 19. There are two afternoon blocks and two evening blocks.
Those days are also 4-hour days at school, so children will be
released at 12:05.

We hope the school year is off to a good start for your family.
